Weekend Preview: ‘Disclosure Day’ Tests if Steven Spielberg Still Has His Base

June 11, 2026

If the King of Blockbusters can’t get a summer tentpole film into blockbuster-metric territory, then is the film heading for a disaster day rather than “Disclosure Day”? No, as long as the metrics still appear in the target audience.

Despite an interest and intent profile resembling other name-driven big budget films such as One Battle After Another, F1, and Project Hail Mary, Disclosure Day trails in awareness as a result of its secretive premise. However, like the comparative films, Disclosure Day has seen significant growth in overall metrics as release day draws closer. Like Project Hail Mary and F1, the growth in the final month pushed the overall profile beyond a niche audience to a more broadly appealing crowd-pleaser. No, it hasn’t reached the same highs as those $600 million-plus worldwide grossers. But it has managed to grow beyond the sub-35% general awareness levels that indicate niche, although not necessarily low performing, appeal.

The main driver is also the key to the film’s possible success. Since Disclosure Day first hit tracking, it has ensnared one central audience: Men over 35. This demo, specifically men 35-54, skewed highest in overall awareness, interest, and intent. They drive most of the population’s awareness and interest in the film and are  the only demographic to reach majority awareness by the end of the pre-release run. While four-quadrant appeal may always be the preferred summer tentpole strategy, supercharging a single demo can also be helpful in the right circumstances.

Throughout the campaign, men over 35 keep a steady lead over the general public’s average awareness, interest, and intent. As release day approaches, this locked-in demo has increased its lead among the general population’s average metrics while also boosting its own awareness, interest, and intent into the majority. Among men over 35, Disclosure Day already achieved blockbuster-level metrics, including 51% awareness, 59% interest, and 50% intent. The broader appeal among this specific demographic indicates a movement beyond a mere genre play. Rather than a smaller sci-fi play like The Creator or The Running Man, Disclosure Day has tapped into something slightly bigger.

How broadly Disclosure Day’s appeal can grow will depend on how effectively it can spread both within and without this target demographic. Casual male moviegoers in the 45-54 age range still hold significantly more intent than the general casual moviegoer of all ages across men and women. Like the gaps in general awareness, interest, and intent expanding among the general population compared to men over 35, the overall intent divide has also grown exponentially between men 45-54 and the general population by opening day. Similar to men over 35 overall, this even casual group of moviegoers boast a roughly 50% intent to see Disclosure Day specifically in theaters. This is already blockbuster-level intent for this age group.

Disclosure Day does not have the same overall blockbuster-level metrics as Project Hail Mary, but its blockbuster-level base among the specific target demographic places it a cut above some lower-performing sci-fi attempts. Thanks to extreme enthusiasm among men 35-54, Disclosure Day channels similar intent and interest profiles as last year’s summer original name-driven hit F1. If Disclosure Day can successfully turn out its intent base, especially from its blockbuster-level enthusiasm among men 45-54 specifically, then 2026’s summer might have another success story towards its $4 billion goal.
